Starfish

Alright, I think I've put this off as long as I can. When you have loved and I mean LOVED a band since you were 17, how can one stupid blog post do any justice to a concert? Well it fucking can't. But let's get real, imma try it. Ahhh..the Church! First off tho, when I walked into Irving Plaza prepared to get right front and center and make gaga eyes at Steve K. and Marty all night, and there were CHAIRS set up in rows, well, that was just fucked up. A real letdown. What the hell?! Last I checked they were a rock band, even if the tour was acoustic..bah! Whatever the point is I wasn't feelin bad fer long, cos they opened with Block and DAMN HELL it was fucking amazing from then on (that opener guy, Rob Dickenson..mm, kinda pussyish tunes, can't say I dug him)! Here was the setlist (with my little memory notes hehe) :

Block
All I Know
Metropolis-->A flamenco version, a la "El Momento Descudado." I got fucking CHILLS. GORGEOUS.
0408
Grind-->My dad once called this "druggie music" when i was listening to it age 18 whilst painting. This coming from a guy whose fave band is the fucking Doors. Right dad!
A New Season-->Peter is fucking adorable. Not too much else to say on that one.
Providence-->OH MY GOD. He played it for the late Grant from the Go Betweens, but I always remember it from my Acoustic and Intimate cd I have of Kilbey's, and I listen to it and get all weepy all the time.
Sealine--> <3
Don't Look Back-->mothereffing old school yo..the Blurred effing Crusade!
She'll Come Back For You Tomorrow
Pure Chance
Two Places at Once--> Awwww!!
Tristesse--> Marty jammed it out for his song, and his guitar playing impresses more than pretty much any other guitarist I've ever seen.
Buffalo--> Ah, probably one of the highlites of the night, cos I've never heard them do this song live, and it's one of my favorites. For many reasons, one of which is that he sings" Someone I met there, name of Kristina.." It's the only song I know with my name in it, and to hear Steve K. sing it..LIVE..
Easy--> Adorable!
Under The Milky Way--> Steve goes, " I didn't write this song. I found the words on a bubble gum wrapper." I took a lil crappy video to remember it forever, yay!

Day 5

   First Encore
The Unguarded Moment-->HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Steve said it was the first time he played it in NYC! And I know he hates that song, so it was really sweet of him to play it for us nerdies. It was a moment, yo.
Invisible (with Rob Dickinson)-->Gorgeous, and then they broke into Decadence in the middle of the jam out.."We're drinking to Marleeene...!"

   Second Encore
Constant In Opal

Afterwards I HAD to meet Sk again..and since now he um has talked to me a tad on his blog (shhh i know!) so I fucking HAD to say hello. He came out of Irving and I go, "Steve!" and he looks at me, and i go, "Hi! I'm krissy..." and he goes, "Krissy the groupie!"
And I died.
Haha! He gives me a hug, and we start chitchatting for a bit. He was SOOO NICE and I couldn't even handle it. He goes, "Yer famous!" haha, cos I've been commenting on his damn blog since last november. In FACT, the only reason I started this blog was cos I wanted to comment and have a lil avatar show up and I ended up just enjoying blogging a bit. Thanks Steve! We talked about his blog, the Bunnymen ( I KNOW), and he goofed on Ian Mac a bit, which was pretty amusing. Only cos he's Sk. He asked me why I like all these old bands and why they're better than the youngins..and I wasn't as witty I think as I can be cos um ITS STEVE KILBEY and I was pretty much going brain dead, haha. Oh, and of course I show him my starfish tattoo, what a geek, but he didn't seem too weirded out, I'm sure he's seen worse. He was really tall and tan and had a nice grayish beard and no more ponytail..and of course his gorgeous eyes, OH MY. But see for yourself! He was soooo nice to me and even gave me a kissy on the cheek goodnight..then called me a sweet young thing on his blog. He's the fucking MAN. Bottom line. I can't even talk about it any more cos it makes my head implode. I went to the afterparty and stalked Marty a bit but couldnt' get my strength up to talk to him haha, oh Marty! Anyway, check my cutie-pie pic with Sk. If I were 25 years older...!! HAHA. Joke.

    Hi Krissy,
    I know what you mean about The Church. I was into them from the time my friend bought a copy of The Unguarded Moment...the single. In vinyl. Parlophone (record company) Orange label. (I'm REALLY showing my age!) I stole it from him in 1980 and still have it!

    What is with these chairs at the front of the stage at gigs? I thought that was just a trendy Melbourne wanker thing. Now I see it's not even an original idea; they're just copying NY! When I saw The Church at The Corner Hotel (Melbourne) I had to look past the fools who looked like they were sprawled at their kichen tables.

    Anyway, I just drifted here from The Time Being and could relate to everything you said, so I thought I'd leave a comment.

    And isn't SK a nice guy in the flesh? A great photo.
    Cheers
    Steve (another one.)
